Maybe 20 years is a bit short for this, but quantum computing. I'll explain: What makes computers advance so fast is a thing called Moore's Law. Basically what it says is that the average computer processing power will double every 1.5 years give or take. This has been happening very consistently since the 1930's when computers were first being used. Eventually, a transistor will become so small that it is impossible to get any smaller, making computer power stop in it's tracks. This is estimated to happen withing the next 20-40 years. Quantum computing uses sub atomic particles instead of silicon. So far, the most complex operation a quantum computer has done is 3 x 5, but the field is advancing quickly, and when Moore's law ends, it will be the only alternative computer.

Any of Elon Musk's companies. Leading electric car builders: hydrocarbons will eventually run out and Tesla will take over. How to provide the electricity when hydrocarbons run out? His other company, SolarCity: empowering the masses to rely on solar energy. H will again take over. And finally, way past twenty years but on the way there, SpaceX. When humans have to go inter-stellar, he will again take over as SpaceX is leading the way on reusable rockets that will enable mass space travel.

I believe that at some point, interest rates are going to rise, so any play on that might be effective, including real estate. Bonds will go down in value if that happens. Also, I think the natural gas trend might increase, as fueling stations become easier to find. We recently discovered huge reserves in the US, and prices seem to me to be very low. That might be a great long-term play. The 'buy-and-hold a basket of steady companies with growing earnings' method is also very solid.

You know, if this question was reversed and asked two decades ago what would people hav wished they invested in, I think one of the answers would be Chipotle. I must say they grew so they truly have expanded across the US.  In this same way, I think the next big fast food company will be Cook Out. Already this chain is in SC, NC, VA, and a few others and I love it. It truly is amazing and I think it has the potential to reach across the nation. It is cheap, gives a lot of food, and a lot of good food. I think that is a successful combination!
