There have been cases of it being a problem. There was an infamous case some time ago where an ISP (Verizon, iirc) throttled the network of a fire department during a wildfire and when they called in to explain that they needed the cap raised (even though they had an unlimited plan), Verizon gouged them for it. Yes! How would you like to pay even more for streaming services? Because that’s what it was coming down to. Everytime you got on youtube or Netflix etc you would be asked to pay a charge to view. EVERY SINGLE TIME! Or….. You could get package deals on sites where you have unlimited internet. So yes. It mattered very very much. Comcast is already over pricing the fuck out of us. I DON’T WANNA PAY MORE!
Reddit freaks out about everything, and it’s in large part because most rely on media snippets which hypothesize news rather than report it. So every story is incendiary and hypothetical, 95% of which incidents never even occur. Welcome to 2020
yup. small businesses got completely screwed over, now and in the future, and ISPs made even more billions. thanks for voting Republican!

Of course not. Every time a bunch of 20-somethings start throwing an absolute shit fit, probably it’s not that deep.
