It’s funny you should say that, someone I’ve spoken to has suggested this before. If you were to start a BBS, though, I’d certainly call in. I’ve got both a landline and a modem. You might want to start negotiating price with the phone company – a line with incoming only service is pretty hard to get, but if you can call customer service and ask for a measured rate or message unit line (meaning outgoing local calls from that line == $$$), you might be able to get some lines significantly cheaper.
