Soooorta experienced this in the aftermath of Sandy. Here’s the advice I can offer. Pack up some good and water like people are saying, then some protection. Guns preferably, but knives, bow and arrows, baseball bays with nails. Anything. If you live in a metropolitan, you should focus on holding out until military help arrive. You are going to want your food and water to last at least two weeks and if the military hands out rations or anything, still save them as much as you can. They are made for longterm survival and will help you in the long term. If you still have running water, make sure that it is decontaminated first. I don’t know if I can stress this point enough. Now I don’t know if gas powered generators will still work in this situation. If they do, then head out to your car, siphon the gas out and into a cannister. If you won’t, others most certainly will.
I think that’s a rather big ‘if’. The worst-case scenario would be the detonation of a substantial nuclear device at an altitude higher than the International Space Station. Thus, anyone using it to attack the US would require a mature nuclear program and an advanced space program. No terrorist groups or rogue nations possess such technology, so it could only be done by Russia or possibly China. The former has enough nukes to level the US, the latter has reportedly got the capacity to hack and disable the Us power grid. As such, neither has any reason to use an EMP, and in an all-out nuclear war, a power cut would be the least of your problems. Tl dr: Get a flu jab. It kills 36,000 in the USA each year.
